Destination Spotlight: Fiji

Fiji Islands – Nestled in the warm, tropical waters of the South Pacific, Fiji is home to some of the best sport fishing found on this planet. This angler’s paradise offers big game fishermen the opportunity to catch giant marlin, tuna, wahoo, and an array of much desired gamefish species indigenous only to a small region in the world.

Marlin and Tuna aside, anglers specifically target Fiji to fish the near 100-miles of barrier reef and adjacent steep drop-offs for GTs (Giant Trevally) and the rugged Dogtooth Tuna. Throwing poppers or surface plugs near the reefs can provide some incredible action on GT approaching 100-pounds, and deep-jigging the outer reef slopes can produce Dogtooth Tuna in excess of 150-pounds.

Captain Fred Lavitman of Green Harbor, Massachusetts shared these photos of his recent trip to Fiji fishing for Giant Trevally and Dogtooth Tuna, as well as a couple bonus species that frequent The Reef.
